Create and manage order fulfilment methods for your point of sale

  • About fulfilment methods

    When you’re creating a new sale on the Square Point of Sale app or Square Restaurant POS app, you will select a pre-filled fulfilment method (ie ‘Delivery’, ‘Eat-in’, ‘Pickup’ or ‘Takeaway’) or create a custom fulfilment method.

    Your selected dining option will appear in the following places:

    • Customer receipts

    • Order tickets for the kitchen and KDS

    • In-app sales history

    • Advanced reporting and downloadable CSVs from your Square Dashboard

    Before you begin

    • You can create a total of ten fulfilment methods.

    • Fulfilment methods are saved to your item library and not to any specific device.

    • Dining options aren’t available for online orders placed from your online store or for third-party orders. Online orders use fulfilment types.

    Existing sellers using the four dining options will be migrated to the fulfilment methods automatically. Any modified or custom dining options need to be reviewed in the Review your custom fulfilment methods mapping screen.

    Manage fulfilment methods

    Enable fulfilment methods

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfilment methods.
    2. Click Point of sale.
    3. From point-of-sale fulfilment methods, you can view the four preset options that are automatically created: Eat-in, Takeaway, Delivery or Pickup.
    4. Click Add to create a custom fulfilment method:
      • Enter Display text (for example, is ‘Click and collect’).
      • Select Order type to determine how the order will be handled and appear in Orders.
      • Turn Enable order tracking on for this fulfilment method to display order status on the POS and send text-message updates when orders are ready.
    5. Click Save.

    The first dining option listed will be the default for every new sale. Only non-default dining options will show in the order ticket. Dining options are location-specific and you can customise the list for each location.

    Edit fulfilment methods

      1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfilment methods.
    1. Click Point of sale.
    2. From point-of-sale fulfilment methods you can edit, delete or add new dining options.
    3. Click Edit to update the display text, order type, or turn Enable order tracking for this fulfilment method on.
    4. Click Save.
    5. To rearrange your options, click the fulfilment method name and drag and drop the option to your preferred order.

    Apply fulfilment methods

    For every order placed on the POS, your default fulfilment method is automatically applied to the current ticket.

    Square Point of Sale app

    1. From the open ticket in the app, swipe your finger over the default fulfilment method.
    2. To apply a fulfilment method to a specific item in the basket, tap the item and choose a fulfilment method.
    3. Tap Save.

    Square Restaurant POS app

    1. From the app, select the open ticket in question and tap Actions > Fulfilment methods.
    2. To apply a fulfilment method to a specific item in the basket, tap the item and select Modify.
    3. Choose a fulfilment method and tap Save.
