Create and manage order fulfillment methods for your point of sale

  • About fulfillment methods

    When you’re creating a new sale on the Square Point of Sale app or Square Restaurant POS app, you will select a prefilled fulfillment method (i.e.’ delivery, for here, pick up, or to go) or create a custom fulfillment method.

    Your selected dining option will appear in the following places:

    • Customer receipts

    • Order tickets for the kitchen and KDS

    • In-app sales history

    • Advanced reporting and downloadable CSVs from your Square Dashboard

    Before you begin

    • You can create a total of ten fulfillment methods.

    • Fulfillment methods are saved to your item library and not to any specific device.

    • Dining options aren’t available for online orders placed from your online store or third party orders. Online orders use fulfillment types.

    Existing sellers using the 4 dining options will be migrated to the fulfillment methods automatically. Any modified or custom dining options need to be reviewed in the Review your custom fulfillment methods mapping screen.

    Manage fulfillment methods

    Enable fulfillment methods

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfillment methods.
    2. Click Point of sale.
    3. From point of sale fulfillment methods you can view the 4 preset options that are automatically created: For Here, To Go, Delivery, or Pickup.
    4. Click Add to create a custom fulfillment method:
      • Enter Display text (for example, is “Curbside pickup”).
      • Select Order type to determine how the order will be handled and appear in Orders.
      • Turn on Enable order tracking for this fulfillment method to display order status on the POS and send SMS updates when orders are ready.
    5. Click Save.

    The first dining option listed will be the default for every new sale. Only non-default dining options will show in the order ticket. Dining options are location-specific and you can customise the list for each location.

    Edit fulfillment methods

      1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfillment methods.
    1. Click Point of sale.
    2. From point of sale fulfillment methods you can edit, delete, or add new dining options.
    3. Click Edit to update the display text, order type or turn on Enable order tracking for this fulfillment method.
    4. Click Save.
    5. To rearrange your options, click the fulfillment method name and drag and drop the option to your preferred order.

    Apply fulfillment methods

    For every order placed on the POS, your default fulfillment method is automatically applied to the current ticket.

    Square Point of Sale app

    1. From the open ticket in the app, swipe your finger over the default fulfillment method.
    2. To apply a fulfillment method to a specific item in the cart, tap the item and choose a fulfillment method.
    3. Tap Save.

    Square Restaurants POS app

    1. From the app, select the open ticket in question and tap Actions > Fulfillment methods.
    2. To apply a fulfillment method to a specific item in the cart, tap the item and select Modify.
    3. Choose a fulfillment method and tap Save.
