Set up order fulfillment prompts for your point of sale

  • About POS fulfillment prompts

    Fulfillment prompts help you track how orders are being fulfilled directly from your point of sale. These prompts require your team members to select a fulfillment method (like For here, To go, Pickup, or Delivery) when creating orders. Use POS fulfillment prompts to help you better organize order workflows, track fulfillment types for reporting, and ensure consistent order handling across your locations.

    When Drive-Thru mode is active on a device, the fulfillment prompt automatically includes a vehicle identification step. Staff will be asked to select a vehicle color and type for each order, which helps your team match completed orders to the correct vehicle in the lane.

    Before you begin

    You can set up POS fulfillment prompts and configure the following location settings from Square Dashboard:

    • Select where the prompts appear in the order flow

    • Set a default fulfillment method that will be pre-selected for new orders

    • Hide fulfillment methods

    Before you can set up POS fulfilment prompts, you need to create fulfillment methods. Learn how to create and manage dining options.

    Set up POS fulfillment prompts

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfillment methods > Point of sale.

    2. Click Manage by location.

    3. Click the Location drop down menu and select the locations you want to use POS fulfillment prompts at.

    4. Turn Ask staff to choose a fulfillment method for each new order? on and select the following options:

      1. At the start of each new order

      2. After tapping Pay or Send

    5. Click Save and repeat the steps for each location, if applicable.

    Drive-Thru vehicle identification prompts

    When Drive-Thru mode is enabled, an additional vehicle identification prompt appears at the start of each order. This prompt is separate from the standard fulfillment method prompt and includes:

    • Vehicle color — select from a predefined list of colors.

    • Vehicle type — select sedan, SUV, truck, van, or other.

    Vehicle information is displayed on kitchen tickets, KDS screens, and in the Order Manager Drive-Thru tab. It does not appear on customer receipts.
