About managing online ordering with Square for Franchises
Sellers may need to manage their online ordering experience during peak times or in case of emergencies like equipment failure or unplanned closures.
Before you begin
Order throttling and emergency stops must be configured and enabled at the store-level in your Square for Franchises Dashboard for all locations.
To enable order throttling and Scan to Pay, contact your account manager or Square Support.
Scan to Pay is only available through the franchise’s app, and is compatible exclusively with Square POS, and is not supported on Square for Restaurants or Square Register.
For Scan to Pay, the only supported in-store scanning devices are the Honeywell 1950G and the Zebra (Symbol) DS6707.
Enable order throttling
When enabled, order throttling helps your restaurant from being overwhelmed with online orders during peak hours to ensure a smooth experience for your customers. It allows you to balance your kitchen’s order capacity by controlling available time slots for customer orders.
Sign in to your Square for Franchises dashboard, and select a location that is not your merchant-level location from the drop-down menu.
Go to Operations and select Orders throttling.
Under Default settings, toggle on Order throttling enabled.
Under Default kitchen capacity, select either Unlimited for unrestricted ordering or Hour-based to set default make minutes. For Hour-based, set the make minutes/hour.
Optionally, set time-specific throttling windows by clicking Create new window, and customising the Additional order throttling rule as needed by adjusting the kitchen capacity, rule repetition and the time and date the rule should apply to.
Click Save.
Stop accepting orders
Emergency stopping orders will prevent new orders from being placed, while keeping orders placed before enabling Emergency Stop unaffected. While enabled, the store manager will receive a text message about the emergency stop every 15 minutes.
From your Square for Franchises dashboard, then go to Operations > Orders.
Toggle on Emergencystop to stop accepting orders. Toggle off to start accepting orders again.
Disable all stores
In case of emergency, you have the option to disable all stores from the Square for Franchises dashboard.
Sign into your Square for Franchises dashboard.
Click Disable all stores.
Click Confirm.
To re-enable all stores, click Enable all stores.
Enable Scan to Pay
Scan to Pay is a feature designed to streamline the checkout process. It enables team members to quickly locate customers and complete their payments by scanning a QR code.
When customers are ready to pay, they open the app and select the Scan my code option. The app generates a unique QR code that the customer presents to the cashier. The cashier scans the QR code, instantly linking the order to the customer’s account.
