About Neighborhoods
Participation and eligibility
Eligible Square seller locations can be included in Neighborhoods on Cash App. Included locations can appear in Cash App and accept Local Cash on supported Square point-of-sale hardware.
Square adds eligible sellers as part of their current Square setup. You do not need to sign up or change your settings before participation starts.
Neighborhoods is available to eligible, active Square sellers in the US that use supported Square point-of-sale hardware and meet other business criteria. Sellers using Square Loyalty may not be included at this time.
You can pause checkout prompts from your point of sale or Square Dashboard. Pausing prompts does not fully remove your business from Neighborhoods.
Neighborhoods on Cash App helps nearby customers find and follow your business, then return to use Local Cash. Customers can earn Local Cash at participating businesses they follow and redeem it with you, including Local Cash earned elsewhere.
Here's what's included:
1% processing fee on orders placed directly through Cash App (standard processing rates apply elsewhere)
Free marketing tools to reach Cash App customers and reachable email audience directly from Square Dashboard
Local Cash rewards: Customers earn 10% of their order subtotal back in Local Cash, valid at any participating Neighborhoods business, initially funded by Square for participating businesses as part of your Neighborhoods offer. Reward rates and funding terms may vary and are subject to change.
Follower insights to track customer engagement
Your deposits, payouts, and existing Square features work exactly the same as before.
How it works
Your business is now part of the Neighborhoods network. Here's what that means in practice:
In store:
Your buyer-facing display shows a refreshed look with your brand logo
Customers scan a QR code after checkout to follow your business on Cash App and earn Local Cash
When they have Local Cash available, they can redeem Local Cash at checkout
What to tell your staff: "Scan to follow us on Cash App, and you'll earn 10% back in Local Cash to use next time."
When lines are busy (Square Register X2 only):
You can temporarily pause rewards prompts at checkout — so new customers aren't prompted to follow your business during a rush.
Customers who are already part of Neighborhoods can still earn and redeem Local Cash as normal.- This doesn't affect your Neighborhoods participation — just the upsell prompts.
To turn it on: POS settings > Checkout > Neighborhoods > Rewards upsell — select how long you'd like to pause for.
Online (ordering profile):
Your ordering profile is accessible to your followers on Cash App, who can browse your menu if available, place orders, and earn rewards
Orders placed through Cash App qualify for the 1% processing rate
Who's eligible
Neighborhoods on Cash App is currently available for select food & beverage sellers.
What you need to do
Nothing. Your business is already set up. If you'd like to get ahead:

Visit your Channels > Neighborhoods to manage your Neighborhoods settings, view insights, and explore other ways to grow your business with Neighborhoods.
If you have a Square Register, make sure it's up to date. Learn how to update software on Square Terminal, Square Register, and Square Handheld
Sellers using Square Loyalty may not be included at this time. Do not tell Loyalty sellers that Square will automatically migrate or replace their Loyalty program. transition Square Loyalty to Neighborhoods on Cash App
Manage your participation
You have two options, depending on what you want to do.
Stop Local Cash sign-up prompts for new customers
To stop Local Cash sign-up prompts for new customers:
Sign in to Square Dashboard.
Go to Channels > Neighborhoods.
Select Pause Local Cash sign-up.
After you pause Local Cash sign-up, your Square account works normally. New customers won’t be prompted to follow your business in Cash App or earn Local Cash at your business. Customers who already follow your business can still earn and redeem Local Cash at your business.
Fully remove your business from Neighborhoods
To fully remove your business from Neighborhoods, contact Square Support. A support team member will verify your request and confirm your consent before submitting it.
After your business is removed, customers won’t be able to follow your business, earn Local Cash, or redeem Local Cash at your business through Neighborhoods.
You can return to Neighborhoods after leaving. If you have an issue returning, contact support.
