Set up delivery options for your online ordering profile

  • About online ordering profile delivery options

    Offer your customers the convenience of placing delivery orders from your online ordering profile. You can set up in-house or on-demand delivery as your delivery method for each of your locations.

    • Set up in-house delivery to use your own couriers or staff, giving you full control over the delivery experience.

    • Set up on-demand delivery to connect your business with professional courier services through Square’s delivery partners to offer your customers the convenience of placing delivery orders directly through your online ordering profile.

    You can also customize your settings, including delivery and order times, fees, ticket printing, and more based on your delivery method.

    Before you begin

    You can set up delivery options and customize the following delivery settings for orders placed through your online ordering profile from your Square Dashboard.

    • Prep time

    • Lead time

    • Delivery time

    • Ordering hours

    • Charge service fee

    • Minimum order amount

    • Scheduled downtime

    • Order timing

    • Large order limit

    • Ticket printing

    You have two options for delivery method:

    • In-house delivery

    • On-demand delivery

    If you use in-house delivery, you can choose to also use on-demand delivery for orders that fall outside of your delivery area.

    Before you can set up delivery options, you need to do the following:

    Allow delivery from your ordering profile

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Online > Ordering profile > Settings.

    2. Scroll to Delivery and go to the location you want to allow delivery from.

    3. If applicable, click Confirm location.

    4. Turn the switch on to enable delivery.

    5. Click Edit next to the location name.

    6. Choose the delivery method you want to use:

    • Select My own couriers to set up in-house delivery

    • Select On-demand delivery to set up on-demand delivery

    Option 1: Set up in-house delivery

    Prep time

    Enter the number of minutes you need to prepare an order for delivery.

    Delivery area

    To set the delivery area where customers can place deliveries from:

    1. Click Edit > + Add Area.
    2. Select the Area type: Postal Code or Radius.
    3. Enter a name for the area and the postal codes or radius details.
    4. Enter the delivery fee amount.
    5. If applicable, turn on On-demand delivery to use Square’s delivery partners for orders that are placed outside the postal code or radius delivery area.
    6. If you enabled on-demand delivery, click the Delivery fee drop-down menu and choose how you want to charge for on-demand delivery:
      • Customer pays the full delivery fee: Your customers will pay the full delivery fee and you will not be charged.
      • I pay the full delivery fee: You will pay the full delivery fee and your customers will not be charged.
      • Split the delivery fee with the customer: Enter the amount (dollar or percentage) of the fee that you will pay.
      • Customer pays a specific amount, I pay the rest: Enter the dollar amount that you want your customers to pay.
    7. Click Save.

    Delivery preferences

    Set delivery ordering hours:

    • Turn Use location hours on to make the delivery ordering hours the same as your location hours.
    • Turn Use location hours off to make the delivery ordering hours different from your location hours. Adjusting these location hours will only change the hours for delivery orders placed through your ordering profile.

    Set delivery times:

    • Turn Automatically calculate delivery time on to use driving routes from your location to calculate the delivery times automatically. Turn off to manually communicate delivery times to your buyers.
    • Enter the Estimated time from order pickup to customer drop-off details.

    Set no-contact delivery:

    • Turn No-contact delivery on/off. If turned on, your customers can select no-contact delivery and add instructions for the courier when they place their order.

    Note: No-contact delivery is not available for orders with alcohol.

    Order preferences

    Set minimum order amount:

    1. Turn Minimum order amount on.
    2. Enter the minimum dollar amount eligible for delivery.

    Set order limits:

    • Turn Limit order per delivery window on to set the number of orders that can be picked up for delivery in a 15-minute window.

    Set order scheduling:

    • Turn Allow order scheduling on to set the number of days ahead customers can schedule delivery orders.

    Fees

    Click the drop-down menu and choose how you want to charge for delivery:

    • Free delivery
    • Charge delivery fee for all orders: Enter a dollar amount.
    • Free delivery for orders over a minimum amount: Enter the dollar amounts for the standard fee and minimum order amount.
    • Distance-based fees:
    • Enter the distance range and dollar amount for the associated fee.
    • Choose if you want to make orders of a certain dollar amount free.
    • Click + Add fee to add another distance-based fee.
    • Enter a Fallback delivery fee to charge customers if their delivery address is outside of the rules you’ve created.

    Charge service fee:

    1. Turn Charge service fee on.
    2. Select the drop-down menu to choose a dollar amount or percentage service fee.
    3. Enter the dollar or percentage number.

    This service fee is charged in addition to the delivery fee. You keep the amount charged, minus standard processing fees.

    Ticket printing

    Choose when your delivery orders will print:

    • Print order tickets based on pickup and delivery time
    • Print order tickets when the order is placed

    Option 2: Set up on-demand delivery

    Prep time

    Enter the number of minutes you need to prepare an order for delivery.

    Lead time

    Set the number of days in advance your customers must place delivery orders, if applicable.

    1. Turn Require orders in advance on.
    2. Select the drop-down menu and choose the number of calendar days.

    Note: If you also allow order scheduling, the lead time cannot exceed the ordering scheduling window.

    Delivery time

    Set delivery ordering hours:

    • Turn Use location hours on to make the delivery ordering hours the same as your location hours.
    • Turn Use location hours off to make the delivery ordering hours different from your location hours. Adjusting these location hours will only change the hours for delivery orders placed through your ordering profile.

    Set delivery times:

    • Turn Automatically calculate delivery time on to use driving routes from your location to calculate the delivery times automatically. Turn off to manually add delivery times.

    Fees

    Set your delivery fee preferences:

    • Click the drop-down menu and choose how you want to charge for delivery:
    • Customer pays the full delivery fee: Your customers will pay the full delivery fee and you will not be charged.
    • I pay the full delivery fee: You will pay the full delivery fee and your customers will not be charged.
    • Split the delivery fee with the customer: Enter the amount (dollar or percentage) of the fee that you will pay.
    • Customer pays a specific amount, I pay the rest: Enter the dollar amount that you want your customers to pay.
    • If applicable, choose if you want to include an additional rule and pay the full delivery fee for orders over a certain amount. Turn Free delivery over a certain order amount on and enter a dollar amount.

    Charge service fee:

    1. Turn Charge service fee on.
    2. Select the drop-down menu to choose a dollar amount or percentage service fee.
    3. Enter the dollar or percentage number.

    This service fee is charged in addition to the delivery fee. You keep the amount charged, minus standard processing fees.

    Scheduled downtime

    Add dates when delivery ordering will not be available:

    1. Click Add time and select a date range.
    2. Click the Repeat drop-down menu and choose Don’t repeat or Repeat yearly.
    3. Click Save.

    After you add a scheduled downtime date, you can do the following:

    • Click + Add time to add more scheduled downtime dates.
    • Click the pencil icon to edit the created downtime date.
    • Click the trash can icon to delete the downtime date.

    Order timing

    • Turn Cut off time on to enter a time the order needs to be placed by. Orders placed after the cut off time will be scheduled for the next day.
    • Turn Allow order scheduling on to set the number of days ahead customers can schedule delivery orders. Note: The number of days cannot exceed the number of days you set for lead time.
    • Turn Limit order per delivery window on to set the number of orders that can be picked up for delivery in a 15-minute window.

    Large orders

    1. Turn Set an item or price limit for orders on.
    2. Select Item limit or Price limit.
    3. Enter the maximum number of items (up to 100) or price in dollars that can be added to an order.
    4. Notifications will appear for the following when your customers place orders:
      • Their cart reaches the limit.
      • Their cart goes over the limit. They’ll need to remove items in order to checkout.

    Ticket printing

    Choose when your delivery orders will print:

    • Print order tickets based on pickup and delivery time
    • Print order tickets when the order is placed
