About closing your checking account
You can close your checking account from the Square POS app or Square Dashboard.
Before you begin
To avoid your Square payment balance from being held in your account, switch back to Automatic Transfers to transfer your funds. Learn how to Set up and edit transfer options.
Close your checking account
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Banking > Checking.
- Select a location from the Locations section.
- Click the gear icon and select Square Checking.
- Select Get help with Checking > I’d like to close my account.
- You will be prompted to deactivate your debit card. Select Deactivate debit card to confirm.
- Select Close and switch back to transfers to confirm your account closure.
- Open the Square POS app and tap Banking > Checking.
- Select Get help with Checking > I’d like to close my account.
- If you have a Square Debit Card as a default transfer method, you will be prompted to deactivate your debit card. Select Deactivate debit card to confirm.
- Select Close and switch back to transfers to finish closing your checking account. Otherwise, you can close your checking account by selecting Close my checking account.
- Select Finish to confirm your account closure.
