About Virtual Terminal settings
To make Square Virtual Terminal work for your business, you can manage Virtual Terminal settings right from your Square Dashboard to choose accepted payment methods, customize how transactions appear in customer statements, connect accessories to Virtual Terminal, and more.
Before you begin
To use Square Virtual Terminal, you’ll need to sign in to your Square Dashboard. Be sure to have a compatible web browser on your computer such as Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.
Manage checkout settings
Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Payments > Virtual Terminal > Settings > Checkout to configure default transaction types, and enable or disable service charges.
You can customize the payment method types you accept and arrange them in the order you’d like them to be displayed. The payment types you enable and disable will be reflected on the payment details in Virtual Terminal.
Customize your transaction ID on customer statements
When a customer makes a purchase from a Square seller, the transaction will show on their billing statement with an identification descriptor. By default, these descriptors begin with *SQ followed by your BUSINESS_NAME.
Virtual Terminal has a customizable Statement Identification field to personalize this descriptor per order. Simply enter your 20-character descriptor during checkout to help your customer easily identify a past transaction at your business.
Note: If you’re interested in this feature and don't see it in your Virtual Terminal settings, contact Square Support so we can activate it in your account.
Connect accessories to Virtual Terminal
You can connect a compatible USB barcode scanner to your computer to easily add items to a transaction in Virtual Terminal. Once you connect your scanner, click the barcode scanner icon during checkout to add items.
Note: At this time, Bluetooth barcode scanners aren't compatible with Virtual Terminal.
