About accepting donations with payment links

With Square Payment Links, you can reach out to your most loyal patrons to accept donations and help you meet your organization’s financial goals.

Before your begin

  • There are no monthly fees to use Square Payment Links — just an online payment processing fee whenever you collect a donation. Understand Square’s payment fees for more details.

  • When you create a donation payment link, you can add a donation goal and a deadline or timeframe for that goal to drive urgency (for example, in order to have the donation matched).

  • Donation payment links allow anyone to send donations for any cause of up to $999.

As a seller in Canada accepting donations, please note the following:

  • It is required to provide a “purpose of donation” in your donation item’s item description.
  • The keywords “donate,” “donation” or “faire un don” are not allowed in the item name, variation name or item description if the item’s type is not Donation.
  • If a category name includes the keywords “donate,” “donation” or “faire un don,” then items added to that category must have the Donation item type.
  • Custom donation amounts are not supported.
  • Suggested donation amounts cannot exceed $999.
  • Create a donation link

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Payments > Payment Links.

    2. Click Create link.

    3. Choose Accept a donation and click Continue.

    4. Enter a title for your donation link that will be displayed to the customer, as well as a frequency, and a description.

    5. Add an optional image by selecting Upload image.

    6. Toggle on Set donation goal, and enter the goal amount and deadline.

    7. Click Save to start sharing your link.

    Any prior donations made toward your donation goal will be automatically visible to new donors on your payment link. After donating, donors can share their links via Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) so you can maximize your reach. You can add donation goals and deadlines to existing links at any time.
