Create dynamic menu for Square for Franchises

    Dynamic menus allow you to define a schedule for specific parts of the menu. These items will be displayed only during their assigned schedule.

    Before you begin

    To manage your menus with Square for Franchises, you must have menu settings enabled by Square Support. If you need help setting up menus for Square for Franchises, contact Square Support.

    When customers order from holiday or special menus, a preorder only notification will appear. This message lets them know their order will be prepared and fulfilled according to the schedule you’ve set for the menu.

    Setting a special days schedule will override normal business hours.

    Set daily special hours

    If you have specific menus for certain times of day (e.g. Brunch, Happy Hour), you can set hours for daily specials.

    1. Sign in to your Square for Franchises dashboard, and select a location that is not your merchant level location from the drop-down menu. If the daily special hours will apply to all locations, set it up at the Merchant Level.

    2. Go to Operations, and select MenuManagement.

    3. Click Add to create a new menu.

    4. Add categories to your new menu as desired.

    5. Select Show on weekly schedule.

    6. Next to each desired day of the week, click +, then select the hours when this menu should appear online.

    7. Ensure the schedule aligns with weekly availability.

    8. Click Save to apply the schedule and menu settings.

    Set menu visibility

    You can manage the visibility of special menus (such as Halloween Specials or Brunch) on your online ordering page outside their scheduled hours. This feature enables customers to view menu items and place orders in advance, according to the schedule you have set.

    1. Sign in to your Square for Franchises dashboard at the Merchant Level.

    2. Go to the Menu Management tab and select Menus.

    3. Select the menu you want to update.

    4. Under Menu During Non-Operation Hours, toggle on Menu Visibility to Show menu during non operation hours and Save.

    Set special days schedule

    You can feature holiday menus or special menus (e.g. Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day) even outside your normal operating hours or weekly and Special Days Schedules. Items on these menus will be available exclusively for preorder, allowing customers to place their orders in advance for a specific fulfilment date.

    1. Sign in to your Square for Franchises dashboard, then go to Operations, and select MenuManagement.

    2. Select the Menus tab.

    3. Select a menu to edit.

    4. Under Special Days Schedule, click + Add.

    5. Select an availability type:

      • Available all day: Items can be ordered at any time throughout the selected day.

      • Closed all day: Items are unavailable for ordering for the entire day.

      • By special schedule: Set specific hours when the items will be available to order.

    6. Use the date and time selector tools to determine the menu’s availability.

    7. Click Save.
